Flights between Spain and the UK are set for a surge in bookings after Spanish authorities announced they will permit unvaccinated Brits to enter the country. The Spanish government has confirmed that unvaccinated travelers from outside the EU are allowed into Spain , provided they take a COVID test or show a recovery certificate. The changes have been made with immediate effect. There has been some confusion surrounding entry requirements, as Spanish authorities only recently extended the ban on unvaccinated non-EU travelers on May 14th.

The ban was expected to remain in place until at least June 15th before yesterday's changes. In early April, the Spanish tourism board in London announced that unvaccinated Brits were free to enter the country before making a rapid U-turn just a matter of hours later. The announcement was reportedly due to a "misinterpretation" of the rules.

The relaxed entry requirements are likely to attract a last-minute surge in bookings from the UK. In , over 18 million travelers from the UK visited Spain, and authorities are hoping for more of the same this year. Around , UK visitors traveled to Spain in March, with over 1. Many unvaccinated Brits who were unable to visit Spain last summer will have their eye on a getaway this time around.

Spain's recovery is well underway already, with some Spanish destinations seeing more flights than before the pandemic this summer. Ryanair will operate the most flights between the two countries, followed by Vueling and Iberia. Spain also removed its indoor mask requirement and limit on opening times last month, which will only increase its appeal to travelers.
